Another V-Rod project was never a question of *if*—only *when*. The Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special is one of those rare motorcycles that refuses to be forgotten. Bold, aggressive, and unlike anything else Harley has ever built, it deserves more than a place in history books—it deserves to keep turning heads.
The search, however, wasn't easy.
We spent months looking for the right bike. Countless listings came and went, each one missing something that made it worth the investment. Just when it felt like we'd have to keep waiting, this Night Rod Special appeared on Facebook Marketplace.
One conversation with the owner, and everything just seemed to click.
There was only one problem.
He needed to sell the bike immediately, and we wouldn't be back for another month and a half. We knew the risk, but we also knew this was the bike we'd been waiting for. To show we were serious, we wired him a $1,000 deposit and hoped the gamble would pay off.
Fast-forward 44 days.
Waiting felt worse than being a kid counting down to Christmas morning.
The day finally arrived, and we met the owner early that morning. The moment we saw the bike, we knew we'd made the right decision. This wasn't just another motorcycle—it was someone's pride and joy. It had been ridden the way a V-Rod should be, but it had also been meticulously cared for. Aside from a few small paint chips and a minor dent, it was in outstanding condition, complete with fresh rubber on both wheels.
A handshake, an envelope full of cash, and a stack of signed paperwork later... it was ours.
There was just one small problem.
I didn't have another rider with me, and I'd driven the SUV.
That's when an incredible person named Hollie came to the rescue.
She and her husband own and operate Lonewolf Motorcycle Towing, and from the moment she arrived, it was obvious our new bike was in good hands. She loaded it onto their custom motorcycle trailer with the same care and attention you'd expect if it were her own machine. Every strap was checked, every detail handled professionally, and before long, the Night Rod was safely on its way to its new home.
About 40 minutes later, it rolled into our garage without a scratch.
Mission accomplished.
After transferring the ownership and getting fresh plates on the bike, there was no way I was pushing it straight into the workshop without finding out what it was like on the road first.
The first ride confirmed everything we'd hoped for.
This bike absolutely **wants to run**. The power is addictive, the handling is confidence-inspiring, and every twist of the throttle reminds you why the V-Rod developed such a loyal following. It's raw, fast, and ridiculously fun to ride.
But that's only the beginning.
Before the wrenches come out and this Night Rod starts its transformation, here are a few photos of the bike exactly as we brought it home—a snapshot of where this journey begins before we turn it into something truly unique.
It will take some time for all the parts to be ordered and arrive before we can start fitting the new components and refreshing the look of this iconic bike..
1. Paint codes need to be worked out
2. Cowling needs to be finalized and ordered.
3. Wiring has to be done for new items.
4. New bars ordered
5. Rear fender has to be worked out and decided on.
